Bailin Deng is a lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University. His primary research interest is in computational design tools and shape optimization techniques, with applications in freeform architecture and digital fabrication.

Previously, he was a lecturer in computer science at University of Hull from 2015 and 2017. From 2012 to 2015, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Computer Graphics and Geometry Laboratory at EPFL. He obtained his PhD in Technical Mathematics from Vienna University of Technology in 2011, under the supervision of [www.dmg.tuwien.ac.at/pottmann/ Helmut Pottmann]. He has a master degree in Computer Science and a bachelor degree in Computer Software, both from Tsinghua University.
